Dear Valued PBIS Partners,
Due to the current status of COVID-19, the California PBIS Coalition (CPC) understands the considerable disruptions and delays in school schedules and processes occurring across the state. The CPC is aware of the heroic efforts of districts, schools, teachers, and educational staff to provide continued education, meals, and support of all kinds to students across the state.
The traditional California PBIS Recognition System requires external evaluators to interview students and staff in addition to observing classroom settings--all of which are not possible at this time. We understand that your priorities are with supporting your students, families, and community in response to this unprecedented event. For these reasons, the CPC has made the difficult decision to forego the California PBIS Recognition System for the 2019-2020 school year. In its place, the CPC will be providing an alternative acknowledgement process to highlight the heartfelt work of schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CPC believes it is important to reflect on and share the positive experiences districts, schools, and educators have delivered to students and communities during these challenging times. To honor the positive impacts schools are playing in the lives of California’s students, families, and communities, the CPC would like to recognize all schools that are providing services and supports during these challenging times. The CPC has developed a one-year-only “California PBIS Community Cares” acknowledgement to honor schools and community partners in this important work.
To help the CPC recognize your outstanding contribution to your students and community, we ask you provide us with your school’s “story” of your efforts to support students, families, and/or your community during these difficult times. This could be a short written account, a photo(s), a video clip, an artifact, or a resource showcasing these efforts. Additionally, if you partnered with a community organization that you would like to nominate for this acknowledgement, the CPC will extend the recognition to that partner. We do not intend for this to be something extra added on to your already full plate; rather we want to provide an opportunity for you to share positive aspects of the work you’ve already been engaged in this year. We plan to make use of your stories, videos, and artifacts to celebrate the collective work of schools across the state during our 2020 California PBIS Conference in September and we will post a collection of your resources on our website.
To request acknowledgement for your school site and/or to nominate community organizations for the “California PBIS Community Cares” recognition this year, please visit: tinyurl.com/CAPBISCARES and share your “story” with us by June 30, 2020. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Regional PBIS Technical Assistance Center or the CPC directly. We appreciate all that you do!
